詳細: | This roundtable will explore the history of anti-imperialism and women in Japan. Kanno Suga (1881-1911) and Kaneko Fumiko (1903–1926) were two iconoclastic women who gave their lives to challenge the emperor system and Japanese imperialism. This legacy continued in the postwar with women journalists, activists and performers such as Matsui Yayori, Shigenobu Fusako and Hanayagi Genshu. By bringing together scholars of Japanese literature, intellectual history, film, media and social movements, we aim to dialogue about this genealogy of women who defied the national-imperial order. In doing so, we seek to illuminate how such women have rejected Japanese imperialism because they sought greater equality and fairness among all humans regardless of class, gender and nationality. Speakers: - May Shigenobu (UC Riverside) - Setsu Shigematsu (UC Riverside) - Maja Vodopivec (Leiden University) - Yukiko Hanawa (New York University) - Chizuko Naito (Otsuma Women’s University) - Youngran Ko (Nihon University) Moderator: - Rin Odawara (Tokyo University of Foreign Studies) |
